Experiencing Austen Again

The past few weeks I have been taking a stroll down memory lane by reading some of Jane Austen's books after watching the most recent Pride & Prejudice movie with Keira Knightly.

I must admit, I was bit of snob in not wanting to view this latest version, as I didn't want it to taint my previous addiction to the A&E version of Pride & Prejudice (1996).

However, I have to admit, that I almost enjoy the latest cinema debut of Jane's Austen acclaimed Pride & Prejudice better than the A&E version. I think its Mr. Darcy's persona, played by Matthew McFadyne, that inspires me more than the beloved Colin Firth's. The depth of the characters in this latest film are heightened by the relations amongst the actors and the scenery of England is like a fairytale. I know, I'm a hopeless romantic, but I'm enjoying my reunion with Jane Austen and especially the latest book by Lori Smith, A Walk With Jane Austen.

I've been inspired to view the movie Emma again and hope to acquire Mansfield Park to my DVD collection as well. I've even been spoiled to watch Masterpiece Theaters' rendition of Sense & Sensibility the past few weeks on public television.

I would highly encourage my friends and family to find the time and watch Pride & Prejudice so you can experience the depth of these characters that I've come to love so much! ~Rebecca
